Univariate Choropleth Maps

Link Here This type of map only shows one type of variable. This map is showing an explanation of distributing gallons of gas over each state.

Standardized Choropleth Maps

Link Here This map uses the population density of certain area to arrange data. The map also uses quantiles to seperate information.

Dot Distribution Map

Link Here Dot Distribution maps use dots to plot data over a certain field. This map used the United States as its field with blue dots of different size. The data was taken for the number of cell phone towers in the area.

Planimetric Map

Link Here This type of map is a 2D overhead view over a certain area of land. The color depends on the person who makes the map. The one above shows a place called the Soho Foundry. There are multiple buildings of different sizes and shapes. This map also seems almost hand written.

Cadastral Map

Link Here The Cadastral Map above gives a break down of survey done over certain area of land. Usually these types of maps are used in real estate to find houses, or to set boundaries for each house's property.

Isolines

Link Here Isolines are those that map equal areas of data. That could be anything from distance to weather.

Isopleths

Link Here This type of map is associated with meteorology. This particular map is showing radial velocities in the galaxy. The colors give good idea on the heat given off by the velocity.
